Massage:

Massage is a "hands-on" treatment in which the therapist manipulates muscles and other soft tissues of the body to improve health and well-being. Massage can range from gentle stroking and kneading of muscles and other soft tissues to deeper manual techniques. Massage has been practiced as a healing therapy for centuries in nearly every culture around the world. It helps relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and evoke feelings of calmness. Although massage affects the body as a whole, it particularly influences the activity of the musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. It focuses on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.

According to traditional Chinese Philosophy, our health is dependent on the smooth and balanced flow of energy through a series of channels beneath the skin. The energy is known as Qi (pronounced ‘chi) and the channels are called meridians. By inserting fine needles into specific points along the meridians, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body’s own healing response and help restore its natural balance. Acupuncturists believe flow of Qi can be affected by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, hereditary factors, infections, and trauma.

The beneficial effects of acupuncture may also be explained from a more Western perspective, by the activation of neurological mechanisms that help to reduce pain.

Many people use acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions. Others choose acupuncture as a preventive measure to strengthen their constitution or because they just feel generally unwell. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages including, children and the elderly. It can be integrated with conventional medicine. The NICE guidelines for the treatment of low back pain suggest that acupuncture can be an effective treatment for this condition.

Core Process Psychotherapy:

Core Process psychotherapy is a mindfulness-based approach that draws both from western psychotherapeutic models and the wisdom and compassion of Buddhist psychology. Therapy is an opportunity to enquire into the nature of your distress, whatever the source might be, to have it held without judgement, and to gradually move towards an easier relationship to it.
